Invitations are out!

June 3rd, 2010

Well, we’re in the home stretch now.  As usual, I have not updated this blog at all. Remembering to journal has never been one of my strong points.

We’re currently getting down to the nitty gritty with only 5.5-ish weeks until the big day. There’s still shopping to be done, shopping lists to be made up, Flowers to order (not the bouquets…the other flowers), deposits to be paid in full and, oh yeah,…we have to get the marriage license. I guess that last one is kind of important.

The big stuff is all mostly done though. I think that makes it harder to worry about the little stuff. I mean, we have the hall, the food, the dance music. We’re totally covered. Except for those other one thousand and one little details that need to be attended to.

I want to thank everyone for all the positive feedback on the invites!! They were super fun (and a little stressful) to design. It took a couple tries (and I’m still convinced I’m scowling on it) but they’re done and ya’ll seem to like them! Yes! *fist pump* I consider this a shoot and score situation. One cool thing about this is that I’ve put both the invites and the WedSite into my company portfolio, talk about awesome.

Best response to the invites to far came from my Uncle Bill:

Sorry Aunt Sandy, Score one for the Uncles!

Nightmare? Ack!

Every time I try to update this is turns into a wedding-to-do-list and I know nobody wants to read that.

This morning I was more than happy to hear my alarm go off. I had a very intense wedding nightmare. Really I should say wedding RECEPTION nightmare because apparently the actual wedding went fine.

The first thing wrong with the reception was the tables. They were arranged into little stalls like a flea market and all had items to be sold on them. My sister was apparently in charge of the flea market because she was walking around fretting over who would work which table and which items to put put on sale.

It was ok that most of the tables were taken up though, because when I looked around the hall I realized that only about 30 people were there. I didn’t recognize any of them.

The MC (my brother Peter) kept failing to announce stuff and was playing all of the wrong songs for the first dances. Then another DJ starts setting up for no apparent reason.

The photographers were four old ladies in their 80’s-90’s who moved in slow motion and had canes. I wish they hit people with their canes. Abusive granny photographers would have been an impressive addition to this entry but alas, no cane hitting went on.

After some of the dancing has started I realize I haven’t seen Allen in quite some time so I start to look for him only to see him a few tables away wearing a ratty t-shirt and blue jeans.

After witnessing all of this in horror I suddenly realize that I never called the caterer to give them a plate count or to pay them. I mention this to Peter and he immediately ushers me outside where I find that the restaurant who is catering has magically sprung up next door to the Poth VFW.

Rather than going into the restaurant and asking to see someone, my brother breaks into the upstairs office of the restaurant so he can get a business card. The whole time I wait outside in what looks like a wild-west movie set, complete with a musty dirt road and constant blinding high noon sun.

With the business card in hand I call the catering company I’m standing in front of. Before they pick up the phone I try to calm myself by thinking  “At least we’re Married. That was the important part. This is just a big party gone horribly, horribly wrong”

*que Alarm clock*.

At least it had a nice conclusion right?

Thank goodness it’s over.

I’m not 100% sure this tops the Hannah Montana Wedding Cake Nightmare my mom had about my sister’s wedding but the flea market must come close.

Success!!

Well well well…it appears that the blog is in good working order and actually looks like the rest of the website. YAY!

So….wedding news is: I need to call the flower lady or else we won’t have any flowers. There’s more I’m sure but I’m too eager to get this site up and running to worry about it.

Alright, lets give this a try
